Size:
wingspread 2-2.5 in. Recognition: Pale orange to orange with black markings; underside spots are silver. Flight period: On the wing from May to October. Hostplants: The larvae feed on species of violet (Violaceae). Habitat: Various habitats such as oak and other woodlands, hillsides, and fields. Distribution: Along Pacific coast of the U.S., and into the Rocky Mountain states. There are records of the Coronis Fritillary at San Marcos Pass in Santa Barbara County.
