What it looks like: 2.9-4.0 mm in length. Its body is very robust and oval-shaped, with the head pointing downward. The entire body is reddish-brown, except for the elytra, or wing coverings. They are reddish-brown towards the head and darker brown as they extend back towards the end of the abdomen. The antennae are short and clubbed. Where you'll find it: This species can be found from central California up through Oregon. Natural History: Little is known about the habits of these beetles. They have been collected in laurel and oak-buckeye leaf litter. Most species in the same genus occur in low-vegetation, open areas, and feed on subterranean fungi.
