  2. A literature- (and available specimen-)based checklist.
  3. of the Coleoptera of California, which is being revised and re-compiled by Dr. Gimmel, and, as of January 2017, is about 85% complete.

Classification

Scientific name: Coxelus serratus Horn
    Order Coleoptera
    Superfamily Tenebrionoidea
    Family Zopheridae

What it looks like: 2.0-2.9 mm in length. Its body is elongate, oval-shaped, and can range from dark brown to an almost black color. The elytra have deep striae, or punctured rows. It is wingless.

Where you'll find it: The species is native to the coastal ranges of California from San Diego north to San Francisco.

Natural History: These beetles can be found in dead redwood logs, under the bark of dead Douglas firs, and occasionally in leaf litter.
