Size:
wingspread 1.5-1.75 in. Recognition: Small; female is off-white with black FW tips and adjacent spot on leading edge of FW; male has same markings as the female but more yellow-toned, and also has pattern of patchy brownish yellow stripes on HW. Flight period: The adults are active from March to June. Hostplants: The larva feeds on rock cress (Arabis), and other plants in the mustard family (Brassicaceae) such as desert candle, peppergrass, jewel flower and tansy-mustard. Habitat: Found in rocky canyons, ridges, and hillsides. Distribution: Found from southern Oregon south to Baja California, and also east into Idaho, Colorado, and New Mexico. In the spring it can be found on the Mojave Desert, in the Coachella Valley, and around Palm Springs. Probably only present in the drier parts of Santa Barbara County, such as the Cuyama Valley.
