Size: Wingspread 1.5-2 iin.
Recognition: White above, with black markings along leading edge and corners of FW. Underside of hindwing marbled gray-green, with distinctly yellow veins.
Flight period: Adults are active in early to mid-spring.
Hostplants: The larvae feed on various mustards (Brassicaceae), especially rock cresses (Arabis and species of Brassica.
Habitat: Moist open areas, such as fields, meadows, and streamsides.
Distribution: The Large Marble ranges mainly to our north, throughout the Pacific northwest and western Canada. It is not definitely known from our immediate area, but it has been recorded in San Luis Obispo County, and may be found in the northwestern corner of Santa Barbara County.
