Recognition: Male is blue with dark border and white fringes; female is brown with orange patch in HW; underside of both sexes is light gray with black spots and orange band along bottom of HW. Flight period: May to October. Hostplants: Buckwheats (Eriogonum species) are eaten by the larvae. Habitat: Sunny mountain, foothill, desert, and coastal areas. Found around hostplant Eriogonum plants and flowers. Distribution: Western U.S., including southern California. |
