Size: Wingspread 0.75-0.8 in.
Recognition: Small; male is blue wth brown edges, female is brown with orange aurora at bottom of HWs; white trim; underside is gray with black spot pattern and more orange aurora on base of HW.
Flight period: Adults are active from May to July.
Hostplants: Wild buckwheats (Eriogonum species), especially E.fasciculatum.
Habitat: Chaparral areas which include buckwheats, along with other lower mountain areas and lightly forested habitats.
Distribution: Western U.S., throughout southern California in the Coastal ranges, Sierra Madre, Tehachapi, Santa Monica, San Gabriel, San Bernardino and San Jacinto mountains.
