Size: wingspread 1-1.25 in.
Recognition: Variable; upperside is golden brown with brown wing edges; underside is golden brown with green or purple sheen, white line down wings and blue coloring on bottom HW; tailed.
Flight period: Adults are active from April to August.
Hostplants: The hostplants of the Juniper Hairstreak are juniper and red cedar.
Habitat: Fields, juniper and other evergreen woodland.
Distribution: Many subspecies with a combined range over much of the U.S. This extremely variable species has many subspecies in California with at least one or two present in southern California.
