Size: wingspread .75-1 in.
Recognition: Upperside is gray; underside is red-brown with dark, irregular line down wings, and the inner part of wings is darker; tailless.
Flight period: Adults are active from March to June.
Hostplants: The hostplants of the Brown Elfin include a wide variety of plants, most of which are in the Heath family (Ericaeae).
Habitat: The Brown Elfin can be found flying through hills and montane habitats.
Distribution: They are found throughout woodland North America, including California.
