Size: wingspread 1-2 in.
Recognition: Variable; Pacific coast populations golden brown with FW fading to grayish brown at tips, with few small white spots; HW uniform brown with thin dark border along margin; underside almost uniformly brown.
Flight period: Adults are active in late spring to late summer, representing at least two generations.
Hostplants: Larvae feed on various species of Ceanothus (Rhamnaceae).
Habitat: Occurs in chaparral and open, mid- to upper elevation forests.
Distribution: Pacific coast of U.S., except for the central valley of California; also scattered in Rocky Mountains from British Columbia to Mexico.
